Central Connecticut State University presented Rent the Musical in May 2013. The musical had a rock and roll/bohemian theme, and the music director was Beth Lorenzo. Three of the main characters were Mark Cohen, Roger Davis, and Mimi Marquez. Nick DeCrosta played Mark, and Jamie Petronis played Roger and Kat Barone played Mimi. Though I found myself very confused at why he was so calm when he found out his ex girlfriend left him for a woman. I became even more confused when Joanne and him worked together to pay his rent; I just expected him to be more upset. Besides the plot, I thought Mark did great both acting and singing. I thought Jamie Petronis who played Roger did a wonderful job considering the massive role he had. Jamie Petronis had many shining moments, for example when Mimi was about to die I thought his singing was the best. He outshined all of his counterparts. Even though I thought he did a fantastic job throughout the play his singing was a little pitchy. Kat Barone played Mimi in Rent, and I also thought she did a great job throughout the musical. Out of all the actors I think her voice was the best, and I could tell that she really takes music serious because it wasn’t just a theatrical tone. She really showed potential as a vocalist. I wish all of the other performers showed this ability. Overall I thought the musical was very good, the message was powerful, and the acting and the singing were phenomenal besides a few people with pitch problems. I would recommend the production to people over the age of eighteen because yes, the play was very good, but the plot is very mature and could be frightening to young
