In the book "Now is the Time for Running" written by Michael Williams a story of a small village in Africa is told. It is a well written non fictional book. It starts off with a soccer game in a small village in Africa. It is stopped abruptly though when a bunch of jeeps full of armed soldiers pull up and hop out onto the dirt field. Everyone in the village is scared and doesn't know what to do. I didn't expect the book to start off like that and i want to know why the soldiers showed up in the small village. It said "5 trucks pulled up beside our field. Armed men jumped and starred us down for a good five minutes. The town had never seen anything like this". I think this line is important because the book is held in a small town in Africa. With all the violence going on right now I thought it worked well because the armed take fire amongst the village even though they did nothing wrong. …show more content…
Most of the characters are static and change over time. The book starts with a bunch of kids playing a game of soccer which gets interrupted by army men sent by the president of Africa. The kids go from being innocent to a bunch of helpless kids who can't do anything about what is happening in the small village. The main character is Deo and he is one of the kids who goes from a innocent child to running away and hiding from the army men in a matter of one chapter. Most characters in the book change because of what is happening in the village at the time. All their food and water is taken from them and they don't have anything left.
