During World War II there was a spacious hole left in the industrial labor force. A whole that was left for the middle class women of that time to fill. It was during this time that the fictional character Rosie the Riveter came to be. Rosie was used as a marketing tool to make the labor force seem more appealing and to incite a woman’s patriotic duty. Rosie the Riveter served as an icon of purpose and strength and was able to connect the women of the United States in order to serve a cause greater than themselves.
