Sexual orientation is an important part of who we are a humans; sexuality defines how we view ourselves and how we physically relate to others. Sexual orientation refers to a person’s romantic, emotional, and sexual attraction to individuals of a particular gender, whether it is male or female. This attraction is not always necessarily sexual; it could be in forms of desires, interests, infatuations, and fantasies also. It is generally divided into three categories such as: heterosexual, bisexual, and homosexual. Heterosexual is an attraction to individuals of the opposite sex; the term straight is used often. Bisexual is an attraction to members of either sex, male and female. And homosexual is an attraction to one’s own sex; the term gay is used often. …show more content…
These possible biological factors are: genetics, prenatal hormones, differing brain structure etc. In America homosexuality is only about 3-4% and in women 1-2%; as members of a minority they often struggle with their sexual orientation/lifestyle. In homosexual men, the size of their anterior hypothalamus is smaller, and the anterior commissure is larger, that is why scientist believes differing brain structure could be a possible factor. Homosexual men’s hypothalamus reacts to the smell of sex-related hormones, just as a woman’s does. Another physiological difference is that homosexual men and heterosexual women have, on average, equally proportioned brain hemispheres.
