Over the years, students have begun feeling pressured to go to college. Whether it is because they want to or because their parents want them to. Most students even before graduation are deciding where they want to go to college and what for. Shouldn’t students get to choose if college is right for them without others just expecting ever high school senior is going to college? College is not for everyone because it is a decision that sets them on a certain path for the rest of their lives. Michelle Obama in her speech at the Bowie State University, she not only talks about the struggles of African Americans in college but every student. She encourages the graduates to “be an example of excellence for the next generation and do everything you can to help them understand the power and purpose of a good education”(293). Each generation has the responsibility to educate their younger peers. Students are the future of our society, they have the opportunity to change our way of life and thinking just by getting an education. College is not easy students have to overcome many obstacles to receive an education. Michelle Obama quotes Frederick Douglass, “Education means emancipation”, she says this because Douglass believed education was freedom (289). Therefore, everyone deserves freedom and education. Deciding to go to college is one of the biggest decisions of your life. There are many reasons to go or not to go to. College is the best way to explore more than one occupation. College can improve more than thinking skills, it can also improve organization and communication skills. College is a great opportunity to further your career choices and I think everyone should
