It has been known that the Greeks and the Romans have had many interactions with each other, their myths have crossed each other in one way or another and this may be the reason there are many similarities between Greek and Roman mythology. Even though a Greek God or Goddess may have a different name in Roman mythology they still performed similar tasks and were worshiped for similar reasons. This essay will compare and contrast the Greek Gods and Goddesses with their Roman equivalents to show the similarities and differences they each have.

Although Greek Gods are better known, Greek and Roman mythology often have the same Gods with different names because many Roman Gods are adopted from Greek mythology, but with different traits. For example, one of the most well-known Greek Gods is Zeus. He is known as the ‘Father of Gods and men’’ or the King of Olympus. In Roman mythology, Zeus is known as Jupiter, God of the Sky and thunder, as opposed to his Greek equivalent, Zeus, who is the Greek God of the sky and lightning. One of the Greek Goddesses, Hera, is known as Zeus’s sister and wife. Hera is …show more content…
Whereas in Roman mythology they were described to have no physical appearance and were only represented in the imagination of the people. There is a story in Greek mythology that tells of the birth of Hephaestus, the God of blacksmith's, fire, and volcanoes. It goes on to tell that when Hephaestus was born, Hera threw him off Mount Olympus because he was crippled. There are many differences in Greek mythology as opposed to Roman mythology. Ares, the God of War, was a ruthless killer. He refused to give any mercy to any of his enemies and loved having the blood of his enemies meet his spears and blade, as opposed to Mars, who gave mercy to the people who deserved it.
