“The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson and “The Hunger Games” by Suzanne Collins are two books with many similarities and differences. Although the books follow similar paths, they tend to come to very different conclusions and have different motifs that carry throughout the book.
In “The Hunger Games”, Katniss Everdeen is established from the start as a benevolent hero when she bravely volunteers herself to take her sister’s place as tribute. The difference between Katniss and Tessie however is that Katniss acts while Tessie just complained. Both resent the form of government “playing God” and deciding who will die, but the way they act upon it ultimately determines their explicit personalities.
