The Progressive Era was a movement during the 1890s to 1920s that greatly influenced the future of America. Throughout the Progressive Era, there was an improvement in the economy, social activism, political and moral reforms. During this time period, reformers seek to terminate the corruption in the government by confronting health hazards, managing business practices and improving working conditions. In the beginning of the 1900s, journalist, called the muckrakers shined a light towards the cruelty of child labor and the incidents that occurred because of unsafe factories. In the article, The Origins of Workmen’s Compensation in Minnesota, the author, Robert Asher, argued about the inhuman conditions workers had to face on a daily basis.
