This chapter was an interesting read because I personally have experienced many of the social experiences of masculinity which is talked about. Many of these events have happened because of the causes which are explained by the authors. These events being a heightened sense of masculinity in senators which threaten a males social control or power. Like stated in the chapter from the research of Anderson, Daly, and Rapp (2009), I have witnessed the extreme of this scenario occurring in a nightclub atmosphere as the authors mention to be a hot spot for masculinity. Personally, I have witnessed many interactions which would have never turned into a physical fight in any other atmosphere be heightened because of “upward” masculinity which is expressed
