Song Analysis and Video Presentation Assignment One of the greatest concerns in Generation Z is body image for both men and women. A women’s body image is associated with her knowledge of what she believes men favor. The song that was decided on is ‘Try’ by Colbie Caillat. Colbie Caillat is an American artist, composer, actress, guitarist from Malibu, California. She is born on May 28th, 1985. One of her famous songs “Try” conveys a strong theme to women that are concerned about their physical appearance and society’s expectations of beauty. It addresses throughout the lyrics and the video on women putting on makeup, getting their hair done and keeping their bodies thin so others will rejoice in them. This song was based on her personal experiences. This song best defines Generation Z because it speaks mainly about body image and society. Women and men base their bodies off of what social media determine what the ‘perfect’ body is. A ‘perfect’ body for women these days can be considered either a 5’9 or more-foot model, slim body, long legs and skinny or a tall model with curves. The ideal ‘perfect’ body for men is to be carved and chiseled. The arms and abs of a Roman statue, the abdominal V of a Ken doll, and the rugged good looks of simply any member of Ocean's Eleven. Many individuals don't have that body and that is what causes a majority of body shaming.
