Everyone in the United Stated is entitled to freedom of speech; however, there are some limitations on what is protected by the first amendment. Free speech debates have become more common lately with college campuses being the focal points for these arguments. Some people believe that speech codes should be put in place in colleges; however, speech codes can stop the exchange of ideas between students and cause other problems.
Supporters of speech codes believe that giving the school power to determine what speech is appropriate will help to prevent protests and future problems.
