Have you ever thought you’ve lived your whole life with no purpose, or feel like you haven’t made a difference in the world? If you have, don’t any longer. Squealer, in Orwell’s Animal Farm, doesn’t seem to have a huge role while reading the book, but upon reflecting on it, you realize he has a massive impact. Squealer plays an important role in the book - a role big enough to affect the plot, theme, and the overall allegory this story intended to represent. Although it doesn’t jump out at you while reading it, looking back and studying the book allows you to see all the ways Squealer impacted the book, whether it be a positive or negative impact. Squealer’s impact on the plot has everything to do with helping Napolean gain, and keep the power he holds throughout. If it weren’t for Squealer, Napolean would never have had or been able to keep the head position of Animal Farm. Be that as it may, not only did Squealer impact the book as far as the plot and theme, but the overall allegory of the story as well. He represents one of the most influential Soviet Union papers in the country, formerly known as Pravda. Pravda played a role in propaganda during the Russian Revolution, helping Stalin (ruler of the Soviet Union) convince and manipulate the Proletariat (workers or working-class people) that he was working in their best interests and that he cared exclusively about what they wanted, not what he wanted. Furthermore, the allegorical connection between Squealer and Pravda is that Squealer is the propaganda master for Napolean, just like Pravda was to Stalin.
