St. Cecilia also known as Cecilia of Rome was born 200 AD in Rome, Italy. Her, her husband Valerian, and his brother Tiburtius suffered from martyrdom in about 230, under command of Alexander Severus. Her legend is that when she was struck on her neck 3 times with a sword, she lived for three days, and asked the pope to convert her home to a church. Even though she was devoted to Christ and virginity, she was forced to marry her husband Valerian. During the wedding she sat apart and sang to God inside of her heart, for that she was named the Patron Saint of Musicians. Her symbols include any type of instrument and roses. I decided to pick St. Cecilia because I think she’s a great example for all the young women in our church. She stayed true to her faith, heart, and morals. She was rewarded with the beautiful gift of sainthood. Not only that but she’s the saint of music and music has helped me through a lot of hard times in my life. I use music to calm me down, keep me focused, and keep a positive attitude everyday. It distracts me from all the hard things happening in my life and also can give me a different perspective on something I maybe wasn’t so open about before. A few traits of hers that I admire is her devotion. She stayed devoted to Christ and herself all throughout her life. Even within her marriage, it was almost as if she was really getting married to God instead of Valerian. Another trait I admire is her purity, she remained a virgin all of her life in a sense of respect for God. She never tested the limits or risked the disgrace of her family or faith.
