One of the Interesting things I learned on the tour of St. Petersburg was how the founders got people to come and live here. They tried attracting people by showing them how exotic Florida, St. Petersburg in particular, was with its foreign birds, warm weather, bright sun, and surrounding waters. In the house of John Williams, the man that bought the 2,500 acres of land in tampa bay, you could see the walls were painted with the pelicans that Florida had to remind the tourists that Florida had many things you could not get anywhere else. At some point they decided to build hotels and other building to look like a new and modern building in Italy or France to make it seem like florida was even more cultured and exotic. One building
