Formulate Goals and a Statement of Intent When entering a graduate program in education, it is important to understand the person’s goals, background, and reason for wanting to pursue a master’s degree in education. The purpose of this paper is to gain a better understanding of the background and interests, of the personal and professional visions, of the strengths and challenges, and of the skills and characteristics that are important to succeed in a graduate program in education.
Background and Interests My educational background, my professional background, and my interests have led me to pursue a master’s degree in education. The degrees that I have received are a bachelor’s degree in management information systems from Florida State …show more content…
The major steps needed to achieve this vision are receiving my master’s degree in education and applying for a full-time faculty position in a dental hygiene program.
Strengths and Challenges There are personal strengths that will support my training, and there are challenges that I will have to overcome while pursuing my master’s degree. Duckworth (2013) states that grit is needed to succeed in accomplishing one’s goal. I believe that my personal strengths of being organized, being self-driven, and being able to meet commitments will help me succeed in obtaining my goal of earning my master’s degree. My challenge that I will have to overcome is that I will need to learn when to say no to people.
Northcentral and You My education in the Master’s of Education program will fit into my personal and professional development aspirations. It will help me become a full-time faculty member in a Dental Hygiene program.

Time Management I will need to manage my time, so I will have enough time to complete my professional work and my schoolwork.
On-Time Respectful Communication It is important to have on-time respectful communication. People are waiting on my response, and it is disrespectful and inconsiderate to keep people waiting for a long period of time.
Ethical Communication When I speak to people, I am mindful of what I am saying and that it is not offending or being disrespectful to anyone.
Ethical Behavior It is important to have ethical behavior. Ethical behavior includes how I communicate with people and how I write my assignments. I want to make sure that my assignments do not contain plagiarism.
APA Adherence It is important to adhere to the APA guidelines. For me to be successful in my courses, my assignments need to follow the APA guidelines, or my grade will be impacted.
