Stem Cell Research (STR), the investigation of stem cells and their uses, has offered an entirely new approach to debilitating and curing multiple diseases, injuries, and other conditions. STR can, and will contribute to the advancement of human life, and has the overwhelming potential to provide cures for numerous diseases and health issues. The overwhelming potential this research presents has led to some controversy, but in the end, the benefits heavily outway the issues. Stem Cell Research should be viewed as an appropriate practice to battle the many medical issues that plague us today. Stem Cell Research will lead to breakthrough discoveries in many fields of science, as well as provide new methods for testing health products without the use of animals. …show more content…
Stem cells are “non specialized cells which have the potential to create other types of specific cells, such as blood-, brain-, tissue- or muscle-cells” (Stem Cell Research) while still retaining the ability to regenerate through cell division. This is exceptionally important, because it introduces the potential to regenerate and repair damaged tissue, as well as lower the risk of organ transplants. The regenerative uses of stem cells are explained in “Embryonic Stem Cell Research Ethical and Legal Controversies”:
Stem cell technology is speedily increasing within the field of regenerative medicine, granting [new] production of functional tissue and providing for brand new diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities that will surpass the risk benefit ratio of typical existing reparative treatment modalities e.g. organ transplantation, rejuvenation of tissues.
