Stonehenge is one of the most famous structures in the world. Located in Southern England, 2 miles west from Amesbury and 8 miles north of Salisbury, the site is home to large stones weighing between four to eight tons that were erected over the course of a millennium during the Neolithic Period (1). Earliest construction began about 8000 B.C. using primitive tools to dig a large round ditch and bank as the first of three phases of construction. The middle stage was the digging of pits within the circle called Aubrey Holes, named after the man who discovered them.
