Growing up in a Quaker family Susan B. Anthony was brought up with long activist traditions. She was born in Adams, Massachusetts , on February 15,1820. Since very young from all the teaching of her family about what a person should be like and what not Susan started to develop a sense of justice and moral zeal. While growing up she pursuit a career in teaching and she taught for fifteen years before becoming active in temperance. During that time women were not seen as equal yet, therefore she was not permitted to speak at the temperance rallies. This experience led her to join the women's rights movement in 1852 and she became acquaintance with Elizabeth Cady Stanton according to the article " Biography of Susan B Anthony". She also decided to dedicate her life to woman suffrage after joining the women's rights movement. …show more content…
According to the article " Biography of Susan B. Anthony ", Susan traveled, lectured and canvassed across the nation for the vote. Her reasons for joining such groups and fighting against anyone and everyone was because she wanted the abolition of slavery, for women to have the rights to own their own property and for them to be able to keep what they earn and Susan also supported the women's labor organization and spoke on their behalf. During 1845, some members of Susan's family moved to a place called Rochester were they became active in the anti-slavery movement.
