Clarisse McClellan is a very special character in the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. Clarisse is an outcast because she thinks in a very abnormal way than the people in her society thinks. Montag was like everyone else in the book until Clarisse stepped in and showed him that it’s possible to think like other people do. Many people in her society though that she was too different that she was a danger to society. That resulted in a “car crash” that ended her life but Montag was dynamically changed by Clarisse’s actions that had him more interested in books more. Clarisse’s hobbies include smelling flowers and hiking. Clarisse is very different, curious, and a happy person that is not afraid to show her side.

Clarisse is very different from everyone else in the novel. She isn’t into watching TV or mingling with people. She doesn’t do and talk about stuff that other people do and talk about in her society. Clarisse is very interested in nature and life. Not many people in her society care about those things. In the book Clarisse says to Montag, “Bet I know something else you don’t. There’s dew on the grass in the morning.’ He suddenly couldn’t remember if he had known this or not, and it made him quite irritable’” (9). This shows that Clarisse can see things that other people in her society don’t pay attention to.

Clarisse is also a curious person. She kept on challenging Montag and asked him many questions. In the book Clarisse says to Montag, “Are you Happy?” (10). She also asked Montag if he liked his job and she told him that if it’s true that long ago firemen’s put out fires instead of making them. She was also curious to know if they are allowed to read the book that they have collected. This shows that Clarisse is curious about what Montag thinks about the life that they live.
