Long ago on the plains there was a famine. The Lakota people were starving badly so two men went on to the plains to find buffalo. They searched a long while until they saw a white spot in the distance. They galloped on their horses to the white spot and when they reached it they saw a woman. She was a beautiful woman with jet black hair draped in a white buckskin dress. Her hair was as shiny as a raven’s wing and her eyes as brown as the buffalo’s fur. One of the warriors tried to touch her and he became a frozen statue which then shattered. The other warrior stood back in fear as the woman approached him and said, “I was sent by Wanka Tanka, the great spirit, go back to your people and I will arrive at dawn.” the young warrior did as she
