Immigration has caused Australia to become a multicultural country ever since the first European settlement arrived in Sydney in 1788. However, the way in which immigration officials on both sides have kept records, makes it difficult to trace immigration records in regards to those who have migrated to Australia from the region now known in the modern world as the Middle East. During 1950-1977 the first wave of immigration from Iran occurred, continuing on during the 1979 revolution, followed by the Iran-Iraq war, which lasted for 8 years (1980-1988). Incidents such as these have caused many Iranians to leave their homeland and migrate to other countries including Australia. Visas are endorsements on a passport or an official document stating that the person who holds the passport or that document is allowed to enter, leave or stay for a specified amount of time, within a specific country or region. All of the legal migrants who have migrated to Australia or any other country must obtain a visa based on their needs or eligibility. Despite this, some of Iranian people who have migrated to Australia in the last seven years, still do not consider education as a leading factor for migrating, unless for families who are looking for a better future for their children, as a result of an interview. 20% of the Iranians who migrated to Australia in the last seven years were using a Student Visa, most of them were university students and continued studying in order to achieve a higher-level degree. Over all education is still not considered to be leading factor for migrating to Australia for most of the
