The role of police in the United States is not what it seems. People view the police as their job is to prevent crime and lock up the bad guys. Police Officers monitor criminal activity, take part in community patrols, respond to emergency calls, issue tickets, make arrests, investigate crimes and testify in court as needed. People don't often realize that their main job is to serve the community. Fighting crime and arresting criminals is apart of their job but serving the community is what they sign up for.
Police officer's main job is to serve the community. Serving the community could vary tremendously such as helping kids with their bikes on the side of the road, all the way to fighting crime. The basic rights the Constitution talks about is the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights protects individual liberties and prohibitions the government power. The Bill of Rights has 10 amendments that was adopted when the Constitution was written. In the first amendment it states your basic freedoms such as freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly, and petition. This regulates police behavior because police are not allowed to infringe on your basic freedoms and they have to work around them without disrupting them. The United States government consists of three branches, the judicial, the legislative, and the executive. These branches regulate police behavior through checks and balances. Check and balances is when one branch is becoming more powerful than the other two branches and they check it and makes it equal again. The court decisions also regulate police behavior too. When a court makes a decision police have to cooperate with the decision. Police
