Relationships are never perfect. Experiences that we have shape our connections with others. In the book Their Eyes Were Watching God, by Zora Neale Hurston, the main character, Janie Crawford, has many relationships that turn out negative. Thus leading the reader to believe that the other characters tied to Janie may purposely mean to hurt her. Although none of the characters purposely meant to hurt jaine, the nature of her relationships were unhealthy and hurtful to her. Therefore, supporting the statement that none of the characters in the novel mean to hurt Jaine.
Because of the age gap between Logan and Janie, and her unrealistic standards of relationships, this marriage hurt her. Since Janie’s grandmother, Nanny, arranges for the two to be married, Janie’s appeal to Logan has already diminished. She also finds him unatractive because of his weight and

When she meets Tea Cake, the voice that Janie feels she lost in her two prior relationships returns. Their relationship is enjoyable and adventurous for Janie, and she feels as though she can relax and be her true self. There is also a strong sense of stability in her relationship with Tea Cake. “Janie, Ah hope God may kill me, if Ah'm lyin'. Nobody else on earth kin hold uh candle tuh you, baby. You got de keys to de kingdom.” Tea Cake explains here that Janie is the only one for him, causing her to fall even more in love with him. She soon decides to move with him to the Florida Everglades so that they can work in the sugarcane fields. Unfortunately, Tea Cake is bitten by a rabid dog while trying to escape the path of a deadly hurricane. Soon after he becomes dangerous, and causes Janie to shoot him to protect herself. Although she is now safe, her heart is broken by the death of Tea Cake. Therefore showing the reader that Janie is not immediately hurt by his actions while he is rabid, but instead the by death she
