The Veldt is a short novel in which a Peter-Pan-like, “no-parents allowed” theme is strongly used. The kids don’t like their parents, for they don’t show them any compassion or attention. The kids plot to kill the parents, with the help of a “nursery” (a place that comforts the children) and kill them so they don’t have to listen to or follow what the parents say. A couple quotes that foreshadow certain events and killing are, “...The lions. Mr. Hadley looked at his wife and they turned and looked back at the beasts, edging slowly forwards crouching, tails stiff. Mr. and Mrs. Hadley screamed….” (Bradbury 15), “…’Peter, Wendy?’ The door slammed. ‘Wendy, Peter!’ George Hadley and his wife whirled and ran back to the door.” (Bradbury 15) and
