Overall Impression: The conversation that I had with my patient had many strong therapeutic aspects to it, but there were some areas that will still need further improvement. Overall I feel like the conversation had a lot of active listening from my part. I established a connection with my patient and I let her know that I was there for her. I kept eye contact and I was at the same level as her at all time. Also I kept a close personal space between each other. By doing this, my patient felt confortable and open-up to me about her concerns and the way she felt. Throughout the conversation I try my best to acknowledge my patients feeling whenever I had the change. This showed her that I was listening and that I cared for her. I feel like I did a good job in assisting my patient achieve her goal because I allowed her to explore many of the concerns she had about moving to California with her daughter. She also expresses many of her hidden feelings throughout the conversation. Some of the therapeutic techniques that I used through the conversation were: active listening, using silence, using open-ended questions, using touch, restating and paraphrasing, offering self and acknowledging the patients feelings. I feel like I did not consciously thought about the therapeutic communication when I was talking to my patient because I did this before we learn about therapeutic communication. …show more content…
We talked about her concern about moving to California, the way she felt about it and how this would change her life. I feel like only certain part of the goal were met because we did not get a change to talk more about her expressing her concerns to her daughter. Rather we talk about the way she felt about this
