Thomas Jefferson had plans for a westward expansion for a longtime. He saw profit wit expanding west and helping find a way to the Pacific Ocean, possibly through a water route of connections through river sand such. He felt that if Indians were self-sufficient by farming and not having to have such vast lands for hunting, they could live off their farms and the lands used for hunting could be brought for the United States to purchase those lands.
