Visual Rhetoric
The visual author of the photograph uses a high angle, a canted angle, and blurred images to create a feeling of anxiety within the viewer. The high angle used to capture this picture insinuates a claustrophobic feeling. It gives the audience a vast view of the large amount of people in the subway station, bustling in all different directions, making the picture seem immensely crowded. By using a canted angle, the author offsets the image and the emotions felt by the viewer. The anxiety felt when looking at the photo is heightened by making the viewer feel as if the people walking in the photo are walking on a slant into the expanse of the station.
