The purpose of the Western Task Force (WTF) is definitely to secure and control the Western half of North Africa as its name implies. The WTF will execute essential tasks in supporting Operation TORCH. It is not the Center of Gravity (COG) for the operation. If the WTF is successfully at achieving its objective, the results can contribute to the success of Operation TORCH. In kicking off operations, the first assault on Algiers on ”D” Day, Day 1, 15 Oct 1942, is executed by the WTF. The WTF controlling the Straits of Gibraltar is a most critical decisive point. Failure to control the straits would definitely be problematic for the Allied. Controlling the straits is obviously necessary in establishing
