A transit worker, Lucy, has a crush on a man she sees everyday at the train station. On Christmas day Lucy is working at the train station when Peter shows up. Peter tragically falls onto the train tracks and Lucy saves him. Later on, Lucy shows up at the hospital to see how Peter is doing. After finding out Peter is in a coma, Lucy makes a comment that makes everyone believe she is Peter’s fiancee. Lucy is in too much shock to correct Peter’s family. While Peter is in a coma she continues to pretend to be with him. However problems start to arise when she falls head over heals for another man.
The given circumstances of “While You Were Sleeping” are, Lucy is lonely after the death of both of her parents and she has a crush on Peter. The action of the story takes place in Chicago sometime during the 1990’s. Characters such as Lucy and Peter’s family belong …show more content…
Other characters like Peter belong to the upper class. Before the production takes place all of the characters are living separate lives, except for Lucy and Peters’s five second encounter everyday when he gets on the train.
