In Wiliam Golding's novel Lord of the Flies, one of the protagonists was a young school boy named Piggy. He was a main character and has a major role in the book. He was one of the many English school boys who end up stranded on the island. Piggy was very different than most of the other boys on the island. This made him subject to ignorance, ridicule, and rejection from the other boys who were not like him. This ignorance towards Piggy is what caused the other boys besides Ralph to descend into madness. Piggy differed physically, mentally, behaviorally, and by his past. Piggy differed from the other school boys physically. He was over weight and had asthma making it hard for him to keep up. Piggy was shy and not good at speaking in front of others. He lacked the leadership qualities that others had. Because of his intelligence and lack of leadership skills, Piggy sort of became the advisor of the other protagonist and leader Ralph. He was smart enough to know what the group needed and not what just he needed. Piggy always thought for the good of the group even if the other boys decided not to listen to him or not. They usually decided not to. Piggy held a more scientific view on life while most of the other boys just wanted to hunt and have fun. Piggy wanted go home to his aunt and did what he thought was necessary but that would not be the outcome. Piggy was killed on the island by a large rock knocking on him off the cliff to his death while attempting to get his glasses back from the antagonist of the story. Despite creating chaos and madness, the other boys were luckily rescued by a ship who saw the smoke of the forest fire on the island that was started amongst the chaos that started without the presence of rules and
