Have the opportunities for obtaining a green card been hindered by the current political climate? The current political climate continues to branch out and evolve. As America struggles to keep immigrants out, many others believe they should stay. “The U.S. has 425,000 undocumented immigrants who should be able to be eligible to remain in America. There is a great controversy between defenders who believe in stopping immigrants from coming and critics who disapprove of the idea of imprisoning immigrants” (Karaim). What are the reasons why immigrants shouldn’t be allowed in America? The political climate in the United States has become increasingly divisive, particularly when it comes to issues of immigration. However, under the Trump administration, the process has become even more difficult for many immigrants. The Biden Administration has had a tough time dismantling Trump's immigration programs, in the article “Immigration Overhaul” by Ellicott, Val. She states she “scrapped a ban on new permanent residency permits, or “green cards''; and ordered a review of Trump's restrictive asylum policies and other barriers to legal immigration, to eventually end them"( Ellicott). The opportunities for obtaining a green card have been hindered to a certain extent, where immigrants might be able to stay in America legally. The administration has implemented a number of policies aimed at reducing legal immigration and making it harder for individuals to obtain permanent residency in the country.
