Why Do Police Abuse Their Power

You’re running faster and faster. You’re out of breath but you speed-up as the vehicle turns the corner. Panicking, you run into an alley and begin to climb the fence. “Crack!” Is the sound you hear as you land back flat on the ground. You’d cry out in agony, but the car has stopped and the guy gets out of the car with his gun in hand. You instinctively pull out your gun and shoot him. As you lay on the ground in pain, you call for back-up and an ambulance. These are things that policemen go through on a daily basis. They have families just as the men, whom they shoot, arrest, and penalize, have families. So, in a community they are not familiar with, they take extra precautions to live. They make communities safer from those who break the law. Perhaps these life endangering events and situations are why police abuse their power. …show more content…
Studies have shown that people with higher incomes as police officers do, they tend to live in suburban areas on the outskirts of town. Which means there is at least a 25 minute commute to work. So when called to investigate a crime in the city, a police officer only has what is put in front of him at the time of the crime scene, not the community. police officers don't just go into communities just to visit, they go in to do a job. They are very unfamiliar with the community as anything other than a crime
