Why Is America Unfair

As a citizen of the United States of America since birth, I have grown up in a post 9/11 world, seen the first African-American President be elected in 2008, watched the Supreme Court rule same-sex marriage legal in all fifty states, and have witnessed the controversial Black Lives Matter movement develop. I have seen over the past few years these many movements, and have listened to our media bash the United States for being ‘unfair’. Nevertheless I am a proud American and I feel that America is the land of opportunity, freedom, fairness, and that a million people would not legally immigrate here annually if they did not feel the same (Politifact), I agree with these accusations to some respects. The second amendment of the U.S. Constitution clearly states, "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed " (Cornell). Our country was founded upon the belief that there will be no dictators or kings to rule the country, but rather the people rule the country. When the colonists came to America in 1607, they were not looking to be controlled by the government, in fact that’s the exact opposite of why they came in the first place. What is different now than in 1776? The Americans used their guns to win their independence from Great Britain. They used their guns to fight off a government that was not for the people, and to create a new one that was. If the U.S. government today were to take away our citizens right to bear arms, then they would theoretically become exactly what the colonists were trying escape:
