Hammurabi’s Unjust Laws Hammurabi’s laws were unjust for many reasons. In this paper I will give you some of those reasons. Some of the evidence I will use will come from Hammurabi’s property laws, personal injury laws, and his epilogue. Hammurabi was a king that made up a set of laws called Hammurabi’s Code. He claimed that he got his laws from the god of justice Shamash and people followed the laws for a long time.

Hammurabi’s property laws were not just and following this sentence are some reasons. “ If a man broken through the wall [to rob] a house, they shall put him to death and pierce or hang him in the hole in the wall which he has made.” (Law 21). One of the reasons his epilogue was unjust is “ If a ruler alters my laws may the great gods of heaven and earth inflict a curse upon his family, his land, his warriors, his subjects, and his troops.” (Epilogue). This was unfair because it wouldn’t be the kingdoms fault the king altered the laws and it wasn’t fair Hammurabi got to make hundreds of laws while the next kings couldn’t make any. The other part that was unfair was “ By the command of Shamash the great god of justice I wrote these laws.” (Epilogue). That was unjust to say because he had added some of his own also therefore stopping it from being all from the god of justice Shamash.

Hammurabi’s laws were unjust and I strongly show my point.Hammurabi may have made some laws just but because other laws were unjust it made it unjust. Hammurabi created a great feat for his time period even if his laws were unjust. He is remembered all the way up to today because of how great his feat
