The Aztecs were a powerful, civilized, and influential nation. Montezuma I who took power in 1440 was a great warrior who was remembered as the father of the Aztec Empire. By the 16th century, the Aztecs had come to rule over up to 500 smaller states and some 5 to 6 million people, either by conquest or commerce. The Aztecs put strong emphasis on parents to teach their children properly. The boys and girls of the Aztec Empire had mandatory schools where they were separated by gender. They also had an advanced system for writing and keeping records. The Aztecs had their own language called N’ahuatl. Last, the Aztecs were also very into art by sculpting and pottery. They had a very good system to keeping up with writing and keeping records. Their alphabet wasn’t letter, but they were a form of picture writing. All their record were paper made of bark. The type of records they kept were historical events, tax records and also religious sacrifices. If they needed; they would put all of these records together and made a book called the Codice. The Aztecs have a specialty with art and sports. They often had designed art for the warriors also worn as tattoos. They even played sports the most popular sport was called Ullamaliztli. This game was a bit challenging because you couldn’t use your hands, only your head, hips and elbows. The rubber ball you used couldn’t even touch the ground. The Aztec Empire was an empire that cared about its people. They made it mandatory for children to attend school and get the right education. They were very good with keeping up with their records and making sure everything was correct. Last, they were very artistic to the point that that’s how they communicated.
