Writing Assignment 2: Writing Description Thesis: Descriptively explain places of interest to visit to a classmate using the knowledge by participation and observation. Baltimore is “The City That Reads”, in this brief overview I would like to share a few places that will allow any visitor an opportunity to recognize and embrace the cities character, culture, and charm. Baltimore’s rustic and edgy architecture will captivate you as you site through my recommendations of places to visit. Anyone on a trip short or long is guaranteed leave with a trip worth remembering. When visiting Baltimore, a trip downtown is unavoidable. It’s historic district is full of life and great sites. The cobblestoned pavements, tall buildings, and architecture all greet you at the main road Pratt Street. Downtown is the heart of the city, during the weekend you will find live music, marching bands, and even local shops great for picking up souvenirs. The Inner Harbor is shore-lined by the Patapsco River, which is also a great place to watch sunrises and sunsets while enjoying the shores breeze. Like most places, the best views are obtained by foot. Be prepared to work up an appetite. Seafood in Baltimore is like no other. If you’d like a true taste of the city, you must have Maryland Blue Crab. The Maryland Blue Crab Cake is a classic Maryland treat a a staple to the city. Baltimore is arguably the best place in the world to taste a crab cake. My recommended place to enjoy this mouth-watering delectable would be at Phillip’s Seafood Restaurant; which has a location conveniently located within the Inner-Harbor’s Pier 1. If you have a large party, be sure to make reservations as the lines can cause somewhat of a wait. You will find locals migrating there in just enough time to finish up and make their…

As I leafed through the pages of the chapter, I began to identify the essence of what an effective description should be. Just as the characters in the excerpt by Robert Dick-Read were left to contemplate after the clouds flew off into the sunset (pg.160), so too I was left to contemplate the scenic, sensory, roller-coaster ride my imagination was taken on, from the animated description of the characters’ stroll across the plateau. From that experience, I fully appreciate the…
Essay writing, by Ektoras Arkomanis, November 2014
The outline is NOT a marked component. That is to say, its aim is not to hem you in, but to help you in writing your essay. So, don’t make it too formal—give it an organic form:
Include notes (typed or handwritten) that you add over time so that you don't forget your observations.
Include passages that you write, possible titles of chapters, keywords, names of key works, etc.
In short, include anything that can go into the essay under…
