When deliberating a topic for Research Project, I knew I wanted to form my question around stress in Year 12 as it is a topic that I am able to connect with personally. I had originally chosen to research “Do Year 12’s understand enough about stress and its effects in order to deal with it effectively?” but after a consultation with both my teacher and peers, it was decided the question was too broad and needed to be refined further. I finally proposed the question “To what extent are schools educating Year 12 students about the causes and effects of stress and how to manage it appropriately”. I intend to use my research to benefit not only myself during my final year of schooling, but future Year 12 students and Year 12 teachers in how they …show more content…
These focus questions will allow me gather qualitative and quantitative data, and assist me in creating a deeper understanding of what stress is and its effects on the mind and body. It will also allow me to discover possible improvements that schools could make in teaching stress management to students. These points will contribute to my research topic and will allow me to produce an outcome that is informative.
To begin my research, I will survey Year 12 students in a variety of schools to ask their opinion on what stress is, effective methods of managing it and what they believe their school could do in order to teach stress management. Likewise, I plan to conduct an interview with a student counsellor and a teacher as to gain an insight in terms of the types of stress they may see in Year 12, how they suggest teaching stress relief methods to students and why more isn’t done. These processes will provide me with my primary sources of information. For secondary sources, I intend to use books on stress and stress management ‘Coping with Stress by Gwen Packard’ and magazine articles on stress ‘InPsych, Australian Psychological Society’. Additionally, I aim to use online sources to find definitions on what stress is and stress related terminology. By using online secondary sources, I will also be able to show methods of effective stress- management and determine if students are using

For my research, I have chosen two of the learning capabilities; critical and creative thinking and the personal and social capability. My research will address the four components of critical thinking which are;
• Accessing, organising, using and evaluating information throughout all of my research,
• Posing questions and identifying and clarifying information and ideas, in the way of developing my research question and why I have chosen my sub topics,
• Developing knowledge and understanding of a range of research processes and applying them throughout my research,
• Reflecting on, adjusting and explaining my thinking and identifying the reasons for choices, strategies, and actions taken as I will be discussing why I have chosen my subtopics in order to answer my question.
For the personal and social capability, I will be addressing three of the
