Its based on a true story of Ishmael Beah who became a boy soldier during a civil war in sierra leone. He was taught how to kill and move around in the forest. The army became his family basically because he spent most of his life in the army and fighting. The three most important scenes in this story include when ishmael joined the army, The lieutenant, and Uncle Tommy. The first important scene in “A long Way Gone” is how it all started. How Ishmael became a boy soldier and got brought into the civil war. Lieutenant was the father in Sierra Leone Armed Services. This is an important moment in the memoir because He is the on who trained the boy soldiers and lead them to battle against RUF. Ishmael looked up to Lieutenant. When the UNICEF came to come rescue the boy soldier, lieutenant hands them over so ishmael felted betrayed and mad.
