One way the author of this piece uses pathos is when he talks about the four million women who get pregnant each and every year and how eighty-two hundred thousand of those women give birth while under the influence of cigarettes. Susser also points out that seventy-six hundred thousand of those females also drink alcohol, and five hundred thousand of them also use illicit drugs during pregnancy.
