Abortion Abortion is a highly debated topic today in society. Abortion is the deliberate termination of a human pregnancy that occurs mostly during the first 28 weeks of pregnancy. Many people in the U.S. begin to question the morality of abortion. Abortion is not right and must be stopped because of the negative aspects it has. Many women who go through abortion regret their decision and have to deal with both physical and emotional side effects. Abortion goes against the Roman Catholic Church. The Church provides people with many examples of how abortion is bad and sinful. It is the responsibility for the government and the Church to act upon abortion and make it illegal. Abortion has many different procedures that depend on how long you have been pregnant. These procedures often tell us the different types of ways specialists can abort babies. During the first trimester of pregnancy, women have the option to choose either to use the medical abortion process or the surgical abortion process. Before they choose either of the procedures, doctors require women to take a sonogram. A sonogram is an ultrasound exam that uses high-frequency sound waves to scan a woman's abdominal section to create a picture of the baby and placenta. The most common medical procedure is Methotrexate & Misoprostol (MTX). “…a medical abortion procedure used up to the first seven weeks of pregnancy. This medication combination is not as commonly used in the U.S. with the availability of mifepristone, which works more effectively for this use.” The surgical procedure is Aspiration. “…a surgical abortion procedure used to terminate pregnancy up to 16 weeks from the last period. It can also be referred to as suction curettage, dilation and curettage D & C or vacuum aspiration.” There are three procedures for the second trimester of pregnancy that use the surgical abortion process. These procedures are Dilation & Curettage D & C, Dilation & Evacuation D & E, and Induction Abortion. The third trimester of pregnancy has very limited procedures. The procedures are illegal in some states because they are in the late-term of the pregnancy. The procedures for the third trimester are Induction and the Abortion Dilation and Extraction. These are also surgical abortion processes. The procedures for the third trimester are made illegal because people begin to suspect that babies are close to birth but are being killed. Abortion should be made illegal all around the U.S. for killing innocent babies and also ruining the lives of women. Every year, almost 1.2 million women choose to abort their baby to end their pregnancies. Women choose to do abortion because of many legitimate reasons. Women decide to abort the baby if the pregnancy was unexpected. Pregnancies can be unexpected, for example, if women send birth control pills or have been raped. “Very few abortions are done after 16 weeks of pregnancy. But some women have to delay abortions because they have trouble with paying for, finding, or traveling to an abortion specialist (Reasons Women Choose Abortion).” One other main reason why abortion occurs is because women are unable to support the baby. Some women believe they can use that as an excuse to abort a baby. Many adoption centers are available throughout the U.S. for married couples to attend. Women can give approval to which parents would be able to take care of their child. Adoption centers were created to make sure your child grows up the right way. Women face many difficulties after an abortion. Abortion causes physical and emotional side effects that are very common for women. Physical side effects include abdominal pain and cramping, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, spotting and bleeding. There are also other serious complications that could occur. Although serious complications occur in fewer than 1 out of 100 first trimester abortions and approximately 1 out of every 50 late term abortions, it is important to be aware of the following risks:
