In the United States of America, the abortion debate is vigorous and long-running. The debate has existed since the Supreme Court voted abortion to be a “fundamental right” in 1973 (ProCon.org). Most Americans think abortion is a moral issue. While America sees less of an issue about stem cell plantation, or in vitro fertilization, abortion is looked down upon (Liu). An abortion is a procedure to end a pregnancy using “medicine or surgery to remove the embryo or fetus and placenta from the uterus” . If abortion were to be made illegal, women would find a way to get abortions. They would be highly unsafe, and unethical. Women would be very seriously injured. A health professional would not be present and therefore the whole operation would be incredibly dangerous. I also think that it should be a woman’s right to abort if she wants. Less than one percent of women in the United States gets an abortion because of rape or incest (Abortion in America). But one percent of America is still an incredible amount of women. If abortion were made illegal, a woman who has been raped would have to go through the unbearable pain of an illegal abortion, or bring a child into the world that was the result of the pain and agony of rape. If a woman is raped, it is done without her consent. With the option of abortion available, she has the right of choosing to not bring that child into the world. I believe that if someone cannot bring a child safely into their environment and cannot provide it with the love and care it deserves, then abortion should be an option that women have. If a woman is incapable of taking care of a child and gets pregnant, I believe that abortion within the first trimester is an option that makes sense. Of course, adoption is wonderful. However, young women who are still children themselves are very likely to not have developed enough yet to carry a child safely and properly.
