Analyzing Student Involvement

Student involvement is an aspect that is emphasized by Bentley, by employers, and can be a key part of a student’s college years. Many students on Bentley’s campus are very involved in sports, clubs, and all types of organizations. As someone who is a junior I can attest to how emphasized student involvement is. Within the first few months of my freshman year I had already joined two student organizations on their executive board. I held the position of treasurer and freshman liaison. As a student who became very involved on campus it is important to analyze the effectiveness of the student programs and engagements (SP&E) department at Bentley since it is highlighted selling point for Bentley. SP&E hosts a one day mini conference for all of the organizations to come and learn in shortened sessions how to the funding works, the full elements of event planning, and effective uses of social media along with other topics. In previous years the student activities office would host this conference but many of the workshops didn’t fit all of the needs of the student organizations. Since the rebranding and the introduction of organization clusters this semesterly conference has become very useful and more focused on what we would need to succeed as student leaders. With the large emphasis on getting involved it ensures that there is an organization for everyone to find their place. It is conducive for the growth of the students as leaders within their chosen organizations. The students grow through learning the components of running a student organization, it connects them with other student leaders to grow their networks, and the examples of the cluster advisors. The SP&E department directly aligns with the single focus measures of effectiveness within the competing values framework. The department works with student organizations and other offices on campus to meet the systems resource measure as it utilizes and brings together other offices for large campus initiatives. The goals set by the SP&E office revolve around the improvement of student organizations and student life as whole which are constantly being met by their initiatives. The internal processes of SP&E seem to be met since there are high levels of collaboration, team spirit and morale. The key stakeholders for SP&E would be the students which are satisfied based on the programs and the student organization that it serves. As a student leader I would consider SP&E to be a highly effective department on
