In ancient India humans were put into certain groups and were meant to stay there, they called this the caste system. The caste system is an aspect of Hindu religion. In hierarchy order, which means you must born into the type of caste your family is in the caste system (Manian, Ranjini. India's Caste System). The origins of the caste system was created in South Asia. The caste system introduced order and superior social classes that were divided into four ranks. The caste system did not let people move up in the caste (The Caste System). The caste system was divided into four social classes, but also have a class called the untouchables. The fifth class is not considered a part of the ancient caste system, in many societies. The lighter the skin tone the higher up in the caste system you were. Most people in India had darker tone, skin color, but this idea was brought by the Aryans. Birth determined the status in the caste system. At the top of the caste system are brahmins they're priests that perform rituals and sacrifices. Next is the Kshatriya class of warriors and rulers that protect the government. The third class was the Vaisya commoners who were raising crops on land. The lowest caste is the Sudras were servants they were not allowed to take part in vedas or rituals (Strayer, Robert).
