Apple is known as a multibillion dollar company in America that produces the world's most innovative, sought-after technology. With creations like the iPhone, the iPad, and the Mac personal computer, Apple has tremendously expanded their brand by selling the latest tech worldwide. Since millions of products are being sold yearly, it brings on the question... how does this company make these products when in high demand? Major American corporations like Apple turn to outsourcing, or obtaining goods and services from an outside source, to manufacture their products. A popular place to set up shop for these big businesses is China. With the mass-production of Apple products in China, many issues arise for both the American and Chinese workers. …show more content…
But, this still leaves a question unanswered...exactly how does this hurt the working class in america? If the making of iPhones was in America, the production cost would increase as the article “America Can’t Support the Apple” states, “Manufacturing an iPhone in the United States would cost about $65 more than manufacturing it in China, where it costs an estimated $8. This additional $65 would dent the profit Apple makes on each iPhone, but it wouldn't eliminate it.”. With this information, we can see Apple is so focused on increasing their profits, they will stick to outsourcing, leaving Americans without jobs. Sure the production of iPhones in America would dent their profits, but it wouldn’t fully eliminate it. Furthermore, Apple would rather make more money, than provide jobs for Americans who are unemployed, thus harming American workers economically. Apple relies on outsourcing and provides thousands of jobs for people over seas as the article “How the U.S. Lost out on iPhone Work” states, “...an additional 700,000 people engineer, build and assemble iPads, iPhones and Apple’s other products. But almost none of them work in the United States. Instead, they work for foreign companies in Asia, Europe and elsewhere…”. This evidence shows us that Apple employs a tremendous amount of workers in other foreign countries, rather than the U.S. If 700,000 jobs were available for workers in the U.S, than many American workers wouldn’t be struggling economically.
