On September 11, 2001, 19 militant members of extremist, associated with the Islamic terrorist group called al-Qaeda, hijacked four planes and targeted various U.S. buildings. The premeditated attack claimed nearly 3,000 lives. This attack made it the worst attack in U.S. history. Two of the hijacked planes hit two skyscrapers, also known as the twin towers, at the World Trade Center. The World Trade Center was located in New York and is now known as Ground Zero. The attacks left am enormous, blazing breach on the 80th floor, killing hundreds of citizens and trapping many others. People where seen jumping out of the towers to escape dying by fire. The buildings soon collapsed and killed thousands of people. The third plane targeted the Pentagon in Arlington County, Virginia and killed almost 196 people. The fourth, which was heading to the Capitol, crash landed in Pennsylvania after brave passengers fought the hijackers, killing all 44 people. The CIA new that the threat came to America months earlier but failed to inform the FBI.
