What does being an American mean to you? Have you ever wondered what it would be like if you lived in a different time period? Being an American today is a privilege. You have the right to do basically anything you want, but once you break a rule, you have lost that privilege. Think about it for just a minute, you live in the middle ages. You have no freedom and you have to work in a field your entire life. Now think of your life to this day, you live in a home that you are free to do anything. You can have your own job, voice your opinion, and many more. What does being an American mean to you? To be an American, people help each other. All of these things have happened because of the people who have risked their lives. You can speak whenever you want and say whatever you would like. If you are a really religious person, imagine not being able to go to the church that you would like to go to. To this day, you can go to any church you would like to go to. Although, a long time ago, you used to not be able to go to the church that you wanted to. You used to go to the same church as everyone else and believe the same thing that everyone else did. Thank you to the people that serve this country. If we did not have the veterans or the people that served for the United States, we would not be the people that we are today. Have you ever wondered what it would be like if one of your parents weren’t there by your side everyday. Well, people leave their family once a month to go learn how to protect you. They fight in war, sacrifice lives, and even more, earn your freedom. I would like to put a huge thank you out to the people who have fought for my freedom and even more, my father. I live in a country that is free due to all the veterans. Without them I have no clue where we would be today but I do know that it would not be very pretty. Being an American means that you are a free person as long as you follow the rules. If you are an American, you should take the time and think about what makes you an American.
