The Boston Tea Party was a political protest by the Sons of Liberty in Boston, Massachusetts, on December 16, 1773. They were protesting against the British Parliament. The Parliament passed the Tea Act on May 10, 1773. The act allowed British East India Company Tea ownership on tea sales in the American colonies.
