“Breaking Barriers”

“ At this moment I am not your coach, I am your evaluator”. That is what my high school swim coach said to all of us on the first day of tryouts. It was an honor to have made the team those next two days. We had a great season, winning left and right, and as the season continued the Reagan girl’s swim team had grown closer and closer. Now it was a few months after that first day of tryouts and the girls Reagan swim team was getting ready for our conference. We were practically family at this point, and we all had one common goal. I was a freshman, so it was my first year on the team. I was sorta clueless on all this talk about how exciting and nerve-racking conference was. The upper class man would always tell us freshman how amazing and exciting conference was, and eventually we caught up to them. The freshman girls started talking about conference more than the older girls, and we couldn’t wait till the day arrived. We wanted to make sure everyone was intimidated by Reagan, so it gave us extra motivation at the regular meets to beat everyone. We trained harder than any team, going to practice everyday with workouts before we had to swim. Even during winter break we would have practice. Since it was winter there were obviously going to be some type of wintery weather. One week it snowed so much that school was cancelled for almost a whole week. This however didn’t stop the Reagan swim team from organizing practices without our coach and going to them everyday if you could make it. Now conference was coming close and every ones nerves were starting to fire up. People started buy fast suits, putting in extra hours, planning ahead, etc. Coach Michel was getting super excited, and would always remind us to get excited. He planned out the relays,
