Analyze the problems facing the country at the end of the Civil War.
The country was now facing economic issues, especially in the South because the southerners relied on an income from growing tobacco and cotton and by not being able to sell these items during the civil war it left the South in economic turmoil. While on the other hand the North’s economy was thriving due to the need for manufactured goods during the civil war.
Compare and Contrast Lincoln and Johnston’s plan for reconstruction.
Lincoln and Johnston both had differing plans for reconstruction. Lincoln wanted to give the South and the Confederates pardon and he wanted to reimburse them as well as write a brand new constitution for that said state. The main idea behind Lincoln's plan was to get the South to be apart of the Union once again. Johnston had similar ideas to Lincoln in a few cases such as giving the South pardon but certain people had to receive a specific pardon from the president himself if they were worth over twenty-thousand in taxes. What varied between Lincoln and Johnston’s plans was that Johnston wanted to take land away from the wealthy southerners.
