On April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School, Littleton, Jefferson County. Two teenage boys named Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold killed 15 students. The teens then went back outside to their cars to wait for the bombs to go off. When the bombs failed to detonate, Harris and Klebold began their shooting spree.

Many makeshift memorials were created after the massacre, including ones employing victims Rachel Scott's car and John Tomlin's truck. 15 crosses for the victims and the shooters were erected on top of a hill in Clement Park. The resulting Columbine Memorial opened to the public in September 2007.The shooting has inspired dozens of killings,the Columbine effect, including many shootings across the world.
